Carley Furlow is on a mission: to ensure that every public park in Dauphin County with tennis courts also has a lifesaving AED on site.
Most parks with tennis courts are typically home to many other sports and pavilions, which welcome thousands of families, athletes, and community members each year. Having an AED available doesn’t just protect tennis players; it protects everyone who visits the park.
AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are critical in responding to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), which can strike anyone, anytime, anywhere, no matter your age or health. For every minute without CPR and defibrillation, the chance of survival drops by up to 10%. Quick access to an AED can mean the difference between life and death.
Carley’s passion for this mission comes from personal experience. In the last two years, she has known two people who suffered cardiac arrest. That reality has fueled her drive to raise awareness and ensure her community is better prepared to respond.
Carley is no stranger to fundraising for lifesaving impact; she hosts an annual Puppies & Prosecco fundraiser benefitting The Peyton Walker Foundation and was the top individual fundraiser for the Foundation’s Adventure Race this year.
Her goal is ambitious but attainable: to place an AED in all 39 public parks with tennis courts in Dauphin County by December 2026.
While this is no small goal, every dollar counts in protecting hearts and saving lives.

If you know me, then you know sports have always been a big part of my life. Field hockey was my game of choice, and it has given so much back to me while helping shape who I am today. As a two-time Division I All-American at Penn State and a member of both the West Shore Sports Hall of Fame and the Susquenita High School Hall of Fame, I was fortunate to experience the game at the highest levels. For the past 20+ years, I've channeled that passion and love for the sport into coaching.
Today, I coach athletes through Susquenita High School- my alma mater, Revolution Field Hockey Club, Katie Weaver Field Hockey Clinics, and private lessons. I work with hundreds of athletes each year across multiple programs and locations, often without an athletic trainer nearby.
If something happened—if one of my players went down—I would be the one who had to act. The thought of standing over a child I care about, empty-handed and helpless, is something I simply cannot accept.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest gives no warning and doesn't discriminate. It doesn't spare the fastest player on the field or the most conditioned athlete in the gym. It can happen in an instant—on the turf, on the sideline, or in the middle of a drill—and when it does, every second matters.
That's why having an AED in my possession isn't just important to me—it's personal. The minutes between a cardiac event and defibrillation can mean the difference between life and death, and I refuse to be the coach standing helpless when a child needs me most.
Huddle for Hearts understands this. Their mission of placing AEDs where kids play, practice, and gather is one I believe in completely. I've spent years teaching young athletes how to compete, grow, and succeed. I want to be prepared to protect them if the unthinkable happens.
An AED isn't just a piece of equipment. In my hands, on my fields, it's a promise to every player and family that trusts me with their child.
I'm proud to be part of this huddle.

Hello, my name is Brady Ruth. I am a junior at Schuylkill Valley High School in Leesport, PA. I have a personal connection to the use of an AED because in sixth grade I was suddenly diagnosed with a rare heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW). I was completely unaware of the condition until I suffered a cardiac emergency after a soccer game and was rushed to the hospital. Throughout the numerous nights spent in the hospital, and tests and procedures done on my heart, I learned of the high demand and importance that AEDs have. Overall, my goal is to raise enough funds to purchase an AED that can be used in my community.

Giovanni was at the right place at the right time. He found himself next to a friend who was suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest event.
His quick response — lowering his friend from a treadmill to a flat surface — and fast reaction to partner with another person to provide compressions, he saved a life.
Now a college wrestler, Giovanni wants to continue to help raise Sudden Cardiac Arrest awareness.
